Staying Healthy on the Road

This week was the big trip to Las Vegas, aka Sin City. Everything here is done to excess particularly the food and drink, so pre-trip I had to think how I might maximise my healthy eating whilst in the land of the buffet, burgers and booze.

Having traveled to the US before I knew how hard it is to find breakfast cereals not laden with sugar or corn syrup. Well that was easily solved- i brought a pack of my own over from Phuket. I figured I could at least start the day right and see how I progressed.

Early am I'd be busy preparing for the day ahead so a quick bowl of cereal with banana or apple set me up right. I also brought over some dried mint leaves to make a refreshing and stomach calming morning brew. Depending on the night before I also reached for Vitamin Water or one of the delicious fruit/veg smoothies from Naked. Their smoothies are sold in 7/11 stores making them super easy to find and even better they contain no preservatives or added sugar. Perfect for getting at least "2 a day" without any hidden "extras".

Unfortunately this was more or less where the healthy eating stopped and the burgers, canapes and wine flowed. But at least I got a few vitamins into my bod to counteract the over-indulgence.

Meanwhile back at the Kitchen, Thomas has more or less cleaned out all the home made "ready meals" from the freezer....lentil lasagne, pumpkin risotto, thai vegetable soup, cauliflower curry and morrocan aubergine tagine. So at least one of us has managed to stick to the healthy regime this week and it looks like I've got some cooking to do.
